Wallpaper is a universal finishing material that is used in any room. They are well suited for the nursery – but not all. The main requirements for such a finish are environmental friendliness and practicality. It is important that the coating does not accumulate dust, does not provoke allergies and does not release substances harmful to the body into the air. On the other hand, children are active and restless. In any case, they will somehow stain the walls and test them for strength in every possible way, so the wallpaper must be strong enough and – ideally – easy to clean.

What types are suitable:

Paper. Eco-friendly and hypoallergenic, with a simple natural composition, relatively inexpensive and with a large selection of designs. This type of coating is one of the most popular, especially in living rooms. However, it has a significant disadvantage: paper sheets are not intended for wet cleaning and can quickly deteriorate under the onslaught of children’s experiments. Therefore, choose this material if the repair is not made for a year, but with the prospect of updating in a couple of years.
non-woven. Interlining is obtained from compressed cellulose fibers with the addition of polyester. In fact, this is the same paper, but “improved”. Hence – a higher price, but at the same time the corresponding characteristics. Non-woven coatings are safe for health, while they are stronger than paper, wear and fire resistant, they can be washed and painted, they allow air to pass through. From the point of view of environmental friendliness for the nursery, it is better to choose canvases without a vinyl layer.
Vinyl. By themselves, they are considered not the best choice for a child’s bedroom, since the foamed vinyl, from which the top layer is most often made, does not allow air to pass through. At the same time, all other characteristics of such coatings are excellent. If you still want to use this particular material, look for models with a breathable porous outer layer. They are more expensive, but they will be safe for health and will not spoil the microclimate of the room.
Glass fiber. A modern type of coating, which, thanks to its excellent characteristics, is quickly gaining popularity. Cloths are made from fiberglass, which is obtained at high temperatures, and also contains lime, quartz and other components. The result is a very durable, wear-resistant and, most importantly, environmentally friendly material that is easy to wash. Glass fiber is smooth and embossed, produced for painting, and you can update the color more than a dozen times – convenient for subsequent repairs.
Textile. Their main advantages are natural composition (paper base and fabric threads) and exquisite appearance. However, there are also disadvantages. The main problem is the high price. It is also important to choose canvases impregnated with special compounds, otherwise they, like any fabric, will actively collect dust, and this, in turn, can cause an allergy in a child.

The choice of wall color depends, first of all, on the age, gender and number of children in the room. But there are also general principles.

General rules

To make the wallpaper in the interior of the nursery look organic, remember a few important points:

Light shades visually increase the space. Use this if the room is small. Neutral (beige, light gray, diluted white) and pastel colors are perfect for the role of the base for both the boy and the girl.
All children are impressionable and easily excitable, so you should avoid too bright walls. Active colors like red, rich yellow or light green will only stimulate the psyche, and this will prevent the kids from resting, relaxing and focusing on learning or developing games.
The more sun and natural light in the room, the cooler colors you can take. For example, light blue or mint walls will work if the windows face south. But if the sun rarely looks into the nursery, then any warm colors will help to compensate for its absence: yellow, orange, beige, brown.

If the daughter is very small (from 0 to 5 years old), choose any cheerful, but not acid-bright shade. It can be the same pink, but look at the noble tones: dusty rose, peach, powdery. Any variations of beige, white, green, yellow and orange are also perfect. If you combine several coatings, brighter wallpapers can be glued in the zone of active games, but for the bed, choose the most calm finish.
Starting from 6-7 years old, it is worth listening to the wishes of the hostess of the room. Someone will still like the delicate pink palette, and someone will want to see their bedroom in blue or red-gray tones. Prints should also “grow up” with the girl.
