Wallpaper is a universal finishing material that is used in any room. They are well suited for the nursery – but not all. The main requirements for such a finish are environmental friendliness and practicality. It is important that the coating does not accumulate dust, does not provoke allergies and does not release substances harmful to the body into the air. On the other hand, children are active and restless. In any case, they will somehow stain the walls and test them for strength in every possible way, so the wallpaper must be strong enough and – ideally – easy to clean.

What types are suitable:

Color

The choice of wall color depends, first of all, on the age, gender and number of children in the room. But there are also general principles.

General rules

To make the wallpaper in the interior of the nursery look organic, remember a few important points:

  1. Light shades visually increase the space. Use this if the room is small. Neutral (beige, light gray, diluted white) and pastel colors are perfect for the role of the base for both the boy and the girl.

  2. All children are impressionable and easily excitable, so you should avoid too bright walls. Active colors like red, rich yellow or light green will only stimulate the psyche, and this will prevent the kids from resting, relaxing and focusing on learning or developing games.
  3. The more sun and natural light in the room, the cooler colors you can take. For example, light blue or mint walls will work if the windows face south. But if the sun rarely looks into the nursery, then any warm colors will help to compensate for its absence: yellow, orange, beige, brown.
  4. Remember that children grow up quickly, their tastes change rapidly. If you do not plan to make repairs in the next 2-3 years, it is better to immediately choose a fairly neutral finish that will appeal to an older child.

For girl

A girl’s bedroom is associated with pink and stories about a princess, but this does not have to be the case at all. To choose the right finish color, follow these rules:

For boy

On average, boys are more hyperactive, so if you have a fidget growing up whose energy is overflowing, the design of the room should absolutely be restrained.

If you want to decorate the interior “for growth”, then choose from neutral shades: gray, beige, white, light brown. They can be complemented with contrasting black and bright accents in decor or furniture. Photo wallpapers with drawings of cars or planes, space themes, dinosaurs, etc. look interesting.

Often parents try to reflect the child’s hobbies in the interior, but at this age they often change. For example, if your son now loves some character from a game or cartoon, you can immortalize him on the wall – but only if you are ready to update the finish in the next 1-2 years. In other cases, it is better to express interests through bright decor or use vinyl wall stickers. A universal option is laconic geometry or abstraction. Such a pattern will not get bored for a long time and will not seem too childish to an adult child.

For heterogeneous children

Wallpaper in the design of a children’s room for a brother and sister can be either a compromise color, or different for the girl’s and boy’s zone.

In the first case, choose coatings in a neutral gender-neutral shade: beige, brown, gray or white. An additional color can be yellow, blue, orange, green, red (be careful with it!) – or several at once.

If you are using a complex palette, then you should act according to this scheme: choose a common base color and one additional color that your brother and sister, respectively, like. It can be blue and pink, green and orange, gray and purple – any combination. After that, the question arises of how to choose and combine finishes. The easiest option is to buy wallpapers from the same collection, but in different colors. You can pick up companions on your own, but in this case, make sure that they are in the same style. Another convenient option is a paint finish.

Wallpaper design options for the nursery

A great option for a basic finish is a simple solid color finish. These can be canvases of a certain color and for painting. The second option is more time-consuming and costly, since you also need to buy paint, but you can choose the perfect shade for the walls. And some materials (for example, glass wall paper) can be repainted many times, so in the end it is even more profitable.

Of course, the empty walls in the nursery are too boring, so they should be supplemented with decor or the same vinyl stickers. Of the accessories, posters and small paintings, mini-panels, garlands and luminous inscriptions, thematic figurines, for which you can nail a small shelf, are suitable.

simple pattern

If you want an ornamental finish, go for something simple and versatile so you don’t have to redo it soon.

fit:

It is best to combine two types of coatings in a room: patterned canvases and plain areas (this can be paint, plaster, other wallpapers). So the interior will not be overloaded with ornaments.

Wall mural

In the nursery, photo wallpapers are especially popular. Now you can choose from hundreds of options for styles, plots, colors, or order a photo print of your image.

The main thing is not to overdo it with active decoration and choose stylish plots that will not look like greetings from the nineties. The easiest way is to use drawings instead of photographs. It can be delicate watercolor, modern graphics, any stylization. If you want to transfer exactly the picture to the wall, in most cases the black and white version will look more stylish (for example, if you use an image of a city).

The more active the pattern, the smaller the area should be occupied by such a finish. It is optimal to make an accent wall or even one section on it. If you are using photo printing on multiple surfaces, let it be not too bright pictures with a little detail.
